Downtime in federal prison is like political ads…it’s constantly there, which explains why guys are always working out, exercising, and often time in physical peak shape. Morgantown has so many activities with a mindset of positive health and wellness. The daily schedule is mundane and offers a lot of free time. Below, I’m trying my best with the limited emailing system to present the daily schedule and incorporated free time, which at minimum is 7 hours of undisturbed time.
7 hours a day is a quite a bit with the limited resources and restricted activities. I have mostly been spending my hours networking with other guys, playing games like cornhole, disc golf since the weather has been great. Once I have tennis shoes, I will be able to go to the gym area, run on the track, etc. Additionally, I spend a lot of time in the library, reading, playing cards, playing piano/guitar, and intermittedly relaxing due to my chronic fatigue. Basically, I have time to focus on bettering myself holistically (mentally, spiritually, and physically). I wish to have more access to the chapel, but at this time, the chapel is only available on Sundays for the restricted 90 minutes.
The challenge with so much free time is to ensure productivity and focus. I am still trying to find my groove, but I hope the schedule gives a scope of how relaxed the daily events are (of course there are exceptions):
Monday through Friday (Excluding Federal Holidays)
6:10 am – 6:30 am Breakfast
7:30 am Wake-Up Call
8:00 am – 11:00 am Assigned Work Duty (Kitchen, Maintenance, etc.)
11:30 am – 12:00 pm Lunch
12:00 pm – 3:30 pm Free Time (Study, Library, Workout, Nap, etc.)
3:30 pm – 4:00 pm Dorm Chores
4:00 pm Count (Officers Count Number of Inmates)
4:30 pm – 5:00 pm Dinner
5:00 pm – 8:30 pm Free Time (Again)
9:00 pm Night Count (Lights in Dorm Area Turned Off)
Saturday, Sundays, & Federal Holidays
6:10 am – 6:30 am Breakfast
10:00 am Wake-Up Call & Count

Aside from the mundanity of the schedule, today was an incredibly beautiful day (a little cooler). I am blessed to have this opportunity and this schedule, but I do dearly miss everyone (and the internet). Without a cell phone or internet, I do feel quite disconnected from the world. I have no idea what current events have occurred over the past 11 days. I mentioned it a few days ago, but this experience is truly like living in a bubble – well, a bubble for delinquent adult males.
