Week 84: A Debatable Debacle

Posted on July 1, 2024 By Ken Gaughan

The big news this week: the first presidential debacle between Biden and Trump. Two senile elderly men positioned to be the next president of the greatest nation. I made the very rare appearance in one of the television rooms to spectate. For me, the most impressive discourse came from CNN’s moderators when asking poignantly critical questions and maintaining decorum. On Thursday evening, nearly every television here was tuned to watch the historical debate between two presidents vying for re-election. Regardless of a guy’s political affiliation, each guy seemed intently focused on the showdown but lost interest after about 45 minutes. Much has already been analyzed, commentated, and opined about this “historic” debate, so I’ll refrain from interjecting any further. I certainly do not believe most Americans believe a viable candidate will emerge from a geriatric cribbage table.

Oddly, I am still shocked by how many incarcerated men support Trump regardless of race, creed, or background. I erroneously thought inmates would want the democratic reformers in power to advocate for criminal leniency and advance upgrades in an archaic prison system. One reporting from inmate.com (also known as the rumor mill) was that Biden was going to grant thousands of pardons and clemencies in an effort to secure more votes. I often chuckle at these rumors, and even more so to the gullible men who seem to revel in the certainty of them. Hypothetically, if Biden were to suddenly release a slew of felons, I don’t think many of them would be registered or register to vote…I would further speculate that if they could vote, it wouldn’t be for Biden. Following the debate, the conversations have been fascinating to overhear. Even the rare Biden-supporting democrats seem troubled by the lack of performance and deep concern for securing a better nominee for their party.

As the week progressed, the weather normalized from oven temperatures to blissful, sunny summer days and cool evenings. It was just another week of regularly scheduled programming, which is a really good thing to maintain a routine. My housing unit was subjected to a search, which used to occur almost monthly. Our unit hadn’t been searched since about February. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to check-in with me and continuing to show your support. Have a wonderful week and continue to look for any little miracle in your daily life 🙂
