Week 79: Another Day Down

Posted on June 3, 2024 By Ken Gaughan

Over the past few weeks, the band has been practicing for the upcoming GED graduation on June 7. The current band has three core members from the former 2-Point Enhancement band. Finally, we have a name for the new band, Another Day Down. With 7 members, the band is now complete. “Another Day Down” is a mantra for each guy here, so the band name captures an element that each guy relates to. Having the band name helps bring an identity and solidarity to our group, which has been struggling for a few months. I’m excited for our debut in June and for a 4th of July concert.

Also, this week was Law Enforcement Appreciation, which changed up the daily schedule quite a bit. This week substantially acknowledged the dedication, hard work, and sacrifices of officers throughout the nation. This week offers not just appreciation of service but remembrance for loss of life. Years ago, a dear friend lost his life in the line of duty serving on the Cleveland Heights Police Department. I reflected on the significance this week has for me. Several close friends work in law enforcement from national security to local patrolling, including the FBI, CIA, MPD, and so many other alphabet combinations. Their commitment to upholding the law and enforcing it provides stability, security, and freedom for all of us to enjoy everyday. Their service is invaluable and a stark reminder that evil exists. Should you see an officer, take a moment and express appreciation for their vocation.

When I was arrested in 2018, nearly all of my friends in law enforcement could not maintain contact with a-then-possible felon. As I had publicly stated in court during my sentencing, having been the cause of an investigation and legal peril, I made myself the bad guy for which I am truly sorry. I am committed to becoming the good guy again and rectifying all the wrongs that I caused. I am ashamed of my past behaviors and how they disrespected individuals including family and friends that dedicate their life to bringing justice and catching the bad guys.

Throughout the past week, the weather has been exceptionally hot in the near 90s and sunny. So, of course, I played quite a bit of pickleball. The stunning weather also began to heat up the housing units that do not have air conditioning. Fans are the number one commodity to have this time of year. While there are large industrial fans to help move the air, many guys have small personal fans that have been in-use for nearly 20 years. Of course these fans are breaking by the day, so hopefully the weather will offer some reprieve and cool down the units.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my post and support my prison experience. Again, I offer my appreciation to all the women and men who make a daily commitment to serving and protecting our communities and nation. I hope you experience a little miracle this week 😀 Have a wonderful week!
