The unseasonably warm weather for the start of February has been mindboggling but very welcomed. It’s sunny and in the high 50s and 60s, and it’s February! Just two weeks ago, the weather was snowy cold and feeling like a normal winter. Yet, Mother Nature seems to be confusing even the geese that have been laying and roosting eggs. While I would love to see the little winged critters hatch, I worry the weather may turn wintery to impede their survival. Little goslings look like baby ostriches or some form of dinosaur. If you have time, Google what goslings or baby geese look like. They are really odd looking. What do I know about this weather and survival, especially since one duck had hatched and survived through December and January?! Maybe groundhogs are the most reliable weather predictors for spring.
The warmer weather permitted the opportunity to do a lot of outdoor work this week. All the trades in the facilities department have been busy preparing for a safety inspection scheduled for next week. This must be some inspection since we were scraping moss off the recreation center’s flat roof. I remember seeing the roof from afar and wondering if it was an actual “green” roof since it looks like the growth has been occurring for years. I still do not know what makes this upcoming safety inspection substantial, but from the amount of work that has
been done seems evident that it’s important.
Other than the beautiful weather and some extra grimy work, this week has been pretty typical. Of course, this is good news for me, which means time is quickly ticking. I’ll keep you posted on the status of the geese eggs. I hope you are staying healthy, safe, and finding time to enjoy this beautiful weather! Thank you for taking the time to check out my weekly update. Keep your eyes peaked for any sign of a little miracle in your life! 🙂
