Week 86: Ice-Sassins

Posted on July 22, 2024July 22, 2024 By Ken Gaughan

The highlight of this week culminated with the assassination attempt of former President Trump. This tragic incident mourns the loss of life and innocent casualties, refocuses the priorities for both parties, showcases the vulnerability any individual has of political violence, and celebrates the importance of a free democratic country. While an event of this magnitude paves a smoother road for Trump’s bid to be re-elected, Biden has substantially large craters to hurdle: including the continued perception of his cognitive decline.

Earlier in the week, President Biden had been at an event and introduced the Zelensky as President “Putin.” This blunder certainly could be understandable as an isolated error, but the post-debate onslaught has shifted with many democratic backers begging the current president to remove his bid as an incumbent. For obvious reasons, national politics has been the talk among my fellow felons. Following the assassination attempt, at least half of the guys began the conspiratorial framing: the Ukrainians shot at him since Trump is an opposition to their joining NATO, a publicity stunt to secure his second term as demonstrated by the Secret Services’ lagging response, a BB gun or paintball gun was used, the 20-year-old shooter was framed by the CIA, the Biden Crime Syndicate is responsible, the Clinton’s strike again (my favorite)… The weirdest of these irrational theories stemmed from the more educated guys, two of whom were medical doctors. The voice of reason among so many appeared extinguished – and there’s no changing their minds, just their approaches.

This event caused me to consider why I had such clarity with a voice a reason. Where was this voice when I was committing crimes? Where was this demonstrative fortitude of clarity to rationally avoid situations of criminal spiraling? Once upon a time, I had it, and lost it, silenced it, or simply ignored it. I certainly welcome it back, even if it took 20 months of prison to make its voice deafening. Besides the tirade of conspiratorial rants, the other hot topic was the weather. This week was record breaking hot! The soaring temperatures created an ice shortage. It seems the ice machines that we have within each of the housing units could not keep up with the oven-warm conditions. As I have mentioned before, one of these units called Alexander, has the largest number of inmates and the building is not equipped with air conditioning. These guys rely on large fans, cooler showers, and ice to help them tolerate the muggy nights. Without ice, they resort to having friends take ice from the other housing units’ ice machines. My unit has been steadfast against the glacial ransacks.

Overall, the week went well and was hot. I played pickleball in the evenings and continually drank water to stay hydrated. As always, thank you for the continued support and taking the time to check-in. Have a wonderful upcoming week and continue to be mindful any little miracle in your daily 🙂
