Happy Memorial Day! I cannot believe it’s already Memorial Day 2024 – time thieves! The unofficial official start to summer, and a solemn reminder of the lives lost for the protection of our nation. I find it difficult to imagine how truly ugly and evil the experience of war is. Yet, it is necessary to protect our lives and liberties. Certainly today, we are faced with many atrocities and reminders of how real war is…Hamas/Israel, Russia/Ukraine, North Korea, Iran, Sudan, SPACE and sadly so many more regions. I have mentioned that living in Morgantown is much like living in a time-warped bubble. Despite the circumstances, I feel safe and know that I still have freedoms, which came at the costs of uncountable lives of the truly brave. I am grateful for each woman and man that sacrificed their lives for our democracy, as imperfect as it may seem at times.
In celebration of this Memorial Day, I had a superb meal: Grilled BBQ hamburger, all-beef hot dogs, creamy potato salad, sweet baked beans, and vanilla frosted strawberry cake – YUM. The food was really quite delicious. I am still impressed with the quality of food that we have here in Morgantown, especially during the holiday meals. To further celebrate, I volunteered to run Bingo with two other guys and played a lot of pickleball.
On a humbling note: Two different guys approached me this week to express their gratitude for blogging about my experience in Morgantown. One shared that reading my posts each week helped him to mentally prepare for self-surrender and encouraged me to continue posting. The other guy told me that he had been following me throughout his house arrest and many of the posts provided him a real aspect to what he should expect coming here. I am humbled by their feedback. Mainly, this weekly blog provides me an opportunity to reflect and share my prison journey with my family and friends..I had not foreseen this blog as helping others prepare for their own journeys.
Being able to post weekly is only possible by the unconditional support and encouragement from you…so thank you for reading this. May the souls of all those valiant heroes both known and unknown, who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, rest in eternal peace! I hope you have a wonderful week and continue to keep an eye out for a little miracle in your life!
