Week 37: Cool August

Posted on August 12, 2023 By Ken Gaughan

I really wish that I had something substantial to share for this week, but I don’t. The week flew by. I just maintained status quo: work, eat, pickleball, sleep. The weather has been much cooler, especially for the start of August. The morning temperatures have been in the 50s and only about 70s during the day. The start of August feels like perfect fall days, without pumpkin-spice (I wonder if the pumpkin-spice craze is starting early, like they start Christmas in October).

For church, we have had prayer services since our priest has been on vacation visiting his family in India. The participants has grown to nearly 20 guys on a weekly basis. This is more than half of what it was since I started in November. While that may not seem substantial, it is a great core of guys and helps give mental reprieve to being in a prison camp.

For now, I am just enjoying the routine since it is really helping the time to pass. I remain ever-grateful to everyone who continues to send positive thoughts and many prayers. I am very blessed to have your incredible support, which really makes a difference to helping this experience be a meaningful and lifechanging. I often encounter guys that I truly understand how they repeat their behaviors based on their overall characters and mental dispositions. If I had no one in my life or nowhere to go, then I could understand how these individuals return to crime since it is all they know. For me, never again 🙂

Thank you so much again for all your love and support. Have a blessed week and continue to look for the little miracles in your daily life 🙂
