Week 29 – A “Nu” Week

Posted on June 18, 2023 By Ken Gaughan

Happy June! The weather has been exquisitely beautiful and a bit hot during the day (close to 90 degrees) but
very cool and clear nights. With such perfect weather, I have been playing a fair share of pickleball in the
evenings (after work). Overall, this week was a typical week of work and pickleball. The good news is that the
week flew by for me…I hope the same for you.
There is a new band that I joined called “Nu Edition.” I am not sure about the name, but we are playing more
contemporary pop songs from artists like Bruno Mars, Queen, Prince, and others. I vetoed playing a song by R.
Kelly for the reason of his sexual crimes against minors and women. I was given a bit of resistance, which is
expected from felons, but none could argue with the abuse against a minor. The band is quite new so we are
trying to find our footing and identity. Forming a band is like any baking recipe: you could have all the right
ingredients, you will not have a good cake or cookie without the ingredients all being measured, mixed, and
properly baked. The band stuff does keep me distracted from the mundanity of prison life.
This week’s entry will be quite short since nothing much to report on for the week. I do hope you all have a
wonderful week and continue to look for those little miracles 🙂
