Week 73: Turn Around Bright Eyes

A Total Eclipse! What an interesting phenomenon. I guess only aligned locations were able to enjoy its full splendor throughout the northern hemisphere. Despite issuing guidance on how to properly enjoy the eclipse, the Morgantown campus closed two hours during the celestial display. Disappointingly, I was unable to be outside and enjoy the heavenly event. I was happy to hear that my family in Cleveland had clearer skies and were able to witness how rudely the moon fully blocked the sun’s beauty.
Overall, the week was routinely mundane. Having done much preparatory work for the formal visits a few weeks back, the electric shop has been quiet. I know that I haven’t written much about the band, which went through a few weeks of drama, so I can briefly explain that situation.
About two months ago, one band member self-selected himself as the leader and began making decisions for us, like inviting another guy to join as a bassist. In retaliation for this rash decision, another band member invited another guy to join as another lead singer. The newly invited singer was the nemesis of the self-selected leader. Unknowingly, I showed up to band practice with quite the stir of new members. The self-selected leaded had such a conniption with the newly added singer that he expressed choice words to the band which was witnessed by about 20 audience viewers. The outburst led to a group meeting with the correctional officer in-charge of the band program. Upon airing grievances, another revelation manifested: the self-selected leader had been spreading some terrible rumors about another member who had sympathized with him. The other members of the band unanimously decided to have the self-selected leader take a few weeks leave of absence. During that time, the auditorium conveniently
closed, so no band practices could take place. As a band, we wanted the self-selected leader to understand that he was not the leader and that his behavior was not conducive for properly representing the band. Overall, the time away helped. The band is back together and in full swing. We are practicing for the GED graduation in the first week of June. We will play Bob Marley’s No Woman No Cry, What I Got by Sublime, and La Bamba by Ritchie Valens. The music sounds great, and the band is back together (again – LOL). Thus, another chapter in the saga of the band life has hopefully concluded.
I hope you have a wonderful week. Thank you again for taking the time to read this blog and for being so supportive. Continue to look for any little miracle in your life this week!
